Hiiii. So we’re just about ready to move into our house. Hard to believe it but after nearly three months of deliberations followed by work — we’re nearing the finish line. Right now our marble floors are being polished, and tomorrow interior painting begins. We’re painting the interior in Benjamin Moore White Heron with the exception of one wall in our media room which will be a dark navy called Deep Royal.
Following the painting, wallpaper will be applied in the powder room and the master bedroom (the wall the bed will be on), and then we can move in! I’ve had a toilet in my living room for the past month so I’m especially excited about getting the powder room ready so said toilet can go back to its rightful place. Believe it or not, picking the right wallpaper for the space proved to be quite the challenge despite the myriad options out there. Wallpaper, I’ve also learned is very pricey which makes the decision that much more difficult.
One of the biggest changes thus far is we completely changed the color of the wood floors in our three bedrooms. They were stained a dark brown but we sanded them down to their original color which is maple. The light color makes the rooms appear so much lighter and brighter, and it feels like we got brand new floors without having to pay the price. Sanding cost us $3000 whereas new floors would’ve been closer to $9000. David originally wanted to replace our engineered wood floors with the porcelain wood look tiles that are trending right now, but walking barefoot on wood is much more pleasant. Needless to say, I’m super happy with the results.

I’ve been working with California Closets to build out three walk-in closets and I have nothing but good things to say about the experience thus far. They are professional, efficient, and very accomdating. We don’t have proper closets in our condo and I absolutely can’t wait to give my shoes a proper home. What? They deserve it.
What else, what else… We bought our first piece of furniture! It’s a bed that David chose from Restoration Hardware called the Saint James Panel bed. The finish is antique grey. I was a little worried that it would be too grand for our home, however, I think it’s going to work. We’re going to pair it with more sleek nightstands to bring down the severity a notch. It’s a beautiful piece and I’m eager to get it and be upgrading to a king size bed in the process.

We’re going to hold off on buying the rest of the furniture till we move in because the hubby says he wants to “feel the space”. It’s not a bad idea at all, but the little kid inside me just wants to buy everything now, especially because it usually takes around two months before anything actually gets delivered to you. I don’t know about you guys, but David and I don’t always agree on furniture styles and colors, and since we decided we both have to approve everything that enters our home — I have an inkling it’s going to take a while before our place gets furnished. Married life is all about compromise but sometimes I not-so-secretly wish I could just pick everything and have him say “I love it dear.” On the flip side, I’m happy he’s involved and that in the end our home will truly feel like our home (god willing).
Right now our move-in date is March 29. Wish us luck till then (we’re going to need it).
XOXO
