House Update Part 4

powderroom1
Our powder room is done! We kept the existing mirror, light, and faucet. The wallpaper is by Cole & Son; the sink is Alepe, and the accessories are by Kartners.

Given the narrow space we really couldn’t fit a vanity in here, so we had to go minimalist with the sink and accessories.

Powder room “before” shot. Not going to miss that mosaic tile or ugly sink.

It has been almost two months since we moved into our new home. Can you believe it? I can’t. We’re pretty settled in now (finally!) and all of the construction is officially complete. We’re waiting on some custom built ins for our family room and office but they’ll arrive ready to be installed. It will be two months till our custom pieces are completed (FYI: everything takes two months when it comes to home renovations/re-decorating)) but I’m happy to announce that after months of deliberations we picked Viking Kabinets for the job.

In other exciting news, our powder room is officially done! Our Alepe sink arrived  from Germany after 10 weeks, and its compact size and circular shape is a perfect fit for the narrow space. It also goes great with our wallpaper which we love. Some people discouraged us from choosing the wallpaper we did because the architecture of our home is so modern, but we’re happy we chose something that really spoke to us. I simply don’t believe in the principle that just because the architecture of your home is a certain style it should dictate all of your interior design choices. I’m all about mixing it up.

Another major update is the completion of the double pocket door entryway going from our joint office (which is right off the kitchen) into the living room. It opens up the flow of our home and will be ideal for when we get our act together and begin entertaining. Choosing the type of doors was harder than expected because we arrived at the door wholesaler (FPG) armed only with some Pinterest photos, and had no idea about door thickness, and what kind of mechanism we wanted for the pocket doors. Ever head the terms “clear” and “finger joint”? Neither had we. It was quite overwhelming and we ended up just going with whatever the salesperson said was “better”. We also headed to the lumber store (Shell Lumber) with another Pinterest photo and picked the frame based off that. We decided to do a crown molding type of accent at the top which I was hesitant about because I worried it would look too frou frou. In the end I’m pleased to report we both love the touch of elegance it adds to the entryway.

We opened up this wall from our office to the living room to create a double pocket door entryway.
Pocketdoors1
Loving the round pulls designer David picked. These four panel doors arrived from Quebec (represent!) and we painted them to match our existing wall color (Benjamin Moore White Heron OC-57)
Kitchen1
Our new kitchen pendant lights from Pottery Barn. They look light and airy, which I like.

In terms of furniture, we’ve also made great strides despite not being done just yet. We’re still choosing every single major piece of furniture together, so, you know, it’s a  process. Most days I think this is truly the best way to do it, and somedays I just want to do everything myself. Again, it’s a process. We ordered pieces for our family room and media room from Restoration Hardware, West Elm, and Crate and Barrel, and I can’t wait to share them with you once they arrive (in two months of course). Hope you like what we’ve done with the place.

xoxo
